Would totally recommend it. I enjoyed reading about Aimil and Parlan discovering their love and the evil villian they must overcome.

She needs her spirit broken, Geordie, and swiftly. Parlan eventually grows kind of jealous of him which makes Parlan want Elfking even more because Aimil and her horse have a certain bond that Parlan is wanting to have with Aimil.
One of my favorite lines comes early on “He cared less about the state of her emotions, but he did not particulary care to be seen as little more than a well-proportioned staff that happened to have a man attached.
Many of her novels are set in medieval Scotland. I loved the sparring that went on between then, several times I thought scenes like those would be howrll in a movie or a television show. Aimil Mengue and her brother are taken for ransom by a rival clan the MacGuins. They are both shrewd and savvy players intent on playing the game together. I think my 7 year old daughter could write a better story.
I really liked that aspect of the story, how everyone had an agenda and played a cunning chess game amongst each other in order to achieve success. The ending was underwhelming because it resorted to the typical TSTL actions that you see in every other book of the genre. YES; One or both of the main characters are in peril Hannah Howell, not at her best, but just as beautiful It is mutually desired on both their parts. Hannah Howell never disappoint and this is another of her books that is going on to my all time favorite.
She finds out that she has a very good reason to be scared of this man and Parlan is very determined to make sure she will never marry Rory no matter what her father thinks. The players are all aware of the rules and so there is very little hand wringing and outrage at what was a common hanhah at the time, including the “forced seduction” of elfkimg hostages. It all felt very contrived and rushed, and I like time set aside for development. Aimil had be captured while dressed as a boy, she’s of small stature, and her unbelieveably long hair was held under I’m a fan of Hannah Howell, her names on it I read it.
